Step 2

Getting Ready to Apply

This is the practical setup section. Complete it before the vacancy you want is about to close. The goal is to have working account access, a complete USAJOBS profile, a compliant resume, supporting documents, and a repeatable method for evaluating FAA announcements.

2.1 Where FAA Jobs Are Posted

Use FAA Careers to learn about occupations and hiring programs. Use USAJOBS to find and apply to federal FAA vacancies. USAJOBS uses Login.gov for secure sign-in. Some FAA applications transfer the candidate from USAJOBS into the FAA AVIATOR Online Job Application System for agency-specific questions and then back to USAJOBS to finish the application.

2.2 Understanding the FAA Application System:

The FAA hiring process uses multiple connected platforms, and candidates should understand the purpose of each system before beginning an application. Login.gov provides secure identity verification and sign-in access for federal services. USAJOBS is the primary federal employment platform where candidates create profiles, search for vacancies, upload resumes and supporting documents, and begin the application process. For vacancies that require it, candidates may be directed from USAJOBS to FAA AVIATOR, the FAA-specific application system where additional agency-related application steps are completed. Understanding how these systems work together helps candidates navigate the application process correctly and avoid confusion between account access, job searching, document submission, and FAA-specific application requirements.

2.3 Create Login.gov Access

Creating a Login.gov Account for FAA Applications:

Before applying for FAA positions, candidates should create and verify their Login.gov account to ensure they can access USAJOBS without delays. The process begins by opening USAJOBS and selecting the option to sign in or create an account, followed by completing the Login.gov registration and email verification steps. Candidates should create a strong password, configure an appropriate authentication method, and securely maintain recovery options to prevent future access problems. After completing the setup, candidates should return to USAJOBS and confirm that they can successfully sign in before beginning any application.
