Step 10

FAA Academy and Initial Training

Training depends heavily on occupation. Some employees attend formal academy programs; others complete office, facility, technical, field, online or blended training. The common expectations are disciplined learning, procedural accuracy, feedback, professional conduct and demonstrated competence [4,15,16].

10.1 Training Mindset

A productive training routine combines preparation, active practice, feedback, and review. Keep organized notes on procedures and recurring errors, ask focused questions when a concept is unclear, and revisit weak areas before they become habits. For technical or operational training, accuracy and repeatability are especially important because successful performance depends on applying the correct procedure consistently under realistic conditions.

  1. Arrive prepared and on time.
  2. Learn the reason behind procedures as well as the steps.
  3. Ask for clarification before practicing an unclear procedure incorrectly.
  4. Use feedback as performance data rather than treating correction as a personal attack.
  5. Practice consistently; do not rely on last-minute memorization.
  6. Protect sleep, organization and study routines during intensive training periods.
